thanks, mac, for this great info…

If you change themes, your widget code will not transfer..

The sidebar.php file is specific to your theme, so making changes in that file on one theme will not apply to others.

To make the permission change yourself, follow these instructions:

1. Login to your Website control panel via your control panel portal

2. Click on “File Manager”

3. Click the Yellow ‘www’ folder

4. Click the yellow ‘wp-content’ folder

5. Then themes

6. Then click into whatever theme it is you are using

7. Within the root directory of the theme you will see a bunch of files… find the file you need to change permissions on, in this case, side bar

8. Click on the File’s Name (sidebar.php)

9. In the right-hand corner of the page will appear a little menu

10. Click Change Permissions

11. You want your permission number to be set to 766

12. To do this, the following will need to be checked:

a. USER = Read, Write, Execute
b. Group = Read Write
c. World = Read Write

IMPORTANT: DO NOT SET PERMISSIONS TO 7 7 7. It is equivalent to hittin the RED BUTTON! Not really, but it can fuck you up. 777 gives anyone the right to write to your website with some simple little hacking type thingies (don’t ask, cause I dunno)… anyway… 766 good. 777 doubleplusnotgood!
