Racism in America, or any other country on the planet, for that matter, will never die. There will always be haters, just as there will always be crime and stupid people. It is just one of those things.
As a nation, it seems to me that ‘we’ have moved past racism, but there will always be the haters.
We’re human, so deep down, we always have to find an enemy to make ourselves feel better about our lot in life.
To eliminate racism — one must consider that we would have to kill of all of humanity.
mac
good point, mac. it’s like Austin Powers’ father once said, “There are two things I can’t stand in this world - people who are intolerant of other peoples’ culture, and the Dutch.”
clearly, the Dutch are the real enemy of the world.
Dude, you got your chain yanked- bad. Everyone well, OK 95% + of those posts are from the same people who don’t believe a word they are saying who are making those comments to get a rise out of the rest of the folks in our area who are new to this forum.
Racism isn’t any worse here and anyway, you can’t use the comments there to prove anything- I promise you.
i’m not sure about the chain yanking. i agree with you that many, if not most, of the posters on barry’s site post ridiculous drivel to push the comments forward and engage others. but, let’s look at your numbers, then, and extrapolate them to the overall makeup of america. first, instead of 5%, i’ll take 3%. 3% of the american population (if it corresponds to barry’s site, which, to be fair, you said is not an accurate representation), correlates to 9,209,507 people in america. 5% would be over 15 million people.
now, perhaps my use of the word “racist” was an overreach, however, i don’t think it is overreaching to say that there is still a strong and prevalent view, by many, many people, that could be classified as very prejudiced at least. take, for example, Pat Buchanan’s comments just earlier this week:
“White men were 100% of the people that wrote the Constitution, 100% of the people that signed the Declaration of Independence, 100% of the people who died at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, probably close to 100% of the people who died at Normandy. This has been a country built basically by white folks, who were 90% of the nation in 1960 when I was growing up and the other 10% were African-Americans who had been discriminated against…”
even if, as you said, barry’s site is a poor choice to use to reflect whether or not racism is alive and well, these numbers are alarming to me, especially when coupled with statements like the one above coming from such a public and “respected” figure. even 1% of the population is over 3 million people, and that’s a lot of people. if, and it’s a big if, they decided to really stick it to the collective “us”, considering the complacency of folks and the notion that “they’re just yanking our chain” could be the relaxed response of so many, i find it worrisome. besides, numbers don’t mean shit when you’re the one getting shit on by some backward thinking a-hole. i guess, ultimately, that’s my point. in my opinion, 1 racist asshole is 1 too many.
i appreciate your comment, though, and the point you make. i love the hell out of barry green’s blog and read it everyday.
for all you dumbasses out there the americans are the real enemy of the world and you all need to get a life and quit blogging
There are two things we do really well in America: exporting jobs to China and killin’.
Seriously Bob, don’t make us nuke you.
