new iPhone…sort of

well, i got a replacement iPhone 1G for my crapped out iPhone. i have to say, i’ve been with att for over ten years, and spent thousands of dollars with them, hell, probably tens of thousands of dollars, over that time. yet, when i called and begged for an early discount on an iPhone 3G i got no dice. nada. well, they did offer me two phones as a replacement (for a fee). the two crappiest phones they sell (phone 1, phone 2). literally. so i pulled out the ol’ “how much would i have to pay to just cancel my service now?” routine, hoping that that might motivate them to cut me a deal. it motivated them only to tell me how much i would owe them and to tell me again how much ($299) an iPhone 3G would cost me today. i’m still not sure if att or apple are the greedy bastards, but one of them is and i am a little miffed over it.

buuuut, i got a phone. it’s still “taking time” to activate (3Gs related delay?), so i’m still using my crappy back up phone, which is only slightly better than one of the crappy replacement phones offered me by the att “sales” person. the plus is, the guy who gave me the phone left some pretty rockin’ tunes on it, and thanks to media monkey (which is spyware free guaranteed by cnet), i will be adding those songs to my collection. i never really spent much time listening to U2 or sting, but they’re pretty good. so is that “hanson” bunch of kids, as it turns. other random tunes i enjoyed on the 4 hour drive back to denton from austin: “mambo #5″, “i’m too sexy”, “walk like an egyptian”, “micky”, “candy”, and more…

sasha, the new dog addition to my family, continues to progress as a dog. she’s responding well to food, having gained enough weight that the collar i bought her that used to hang off her neck when cinched as tight as possible is now three inches bigger than it was when i got it. she’s also minding better, and shakes a lot less when she sees my female cat (now renamed Anne Frank). she’s a great dog, and it irks me beyond description that my brother looks at her the way a racist cashier in south central L.A. must look at black man when he walks into the store. because she’s a pit she is just bad. it’s only a matter of time, in his mind, before she murders me, or one of his kids. we’ll prove him wrong, though.

the nokia E71 caught my eye at the att store today. if apple continues to piss me off, i may be going with that when i become eligible for my upgrade. just a thought. the iPhone, however, knows how to mesmerize its users, so it may be a hard habit to break when the time comes. unless this iPhone craps out on me too.

saw my friend who was involved in the fatal motorcycle accident while i was in austin. she’s fucked. the police report was filled out by a moron, and the language he used places all the responsibility/fault on her, regardless of anything else. she doesn’t contend that she was not a player in the incident, however, the guy hit her. he was going so fact he and his bike totaled her truck. he slid over 85 feet down the road before the impact. it’s bullshit that she’s stuck with this, but at this point, there’s nothing she can do. i did, at least, post a reply on a motorcycle forum (my post is by “soz”) on her behalf the day after the accident, but i guess it’s all rather irrelevant to everyone affected at this point.  so there’s that.

my “dying” uncle lives on, however it is clear that he is sick. god bless him. and god bless my father for taking care of him. my dad’s lost both his parents, his first wife, and is losing his brother to lung cancer. he’s nursed three of the four through their illness. my real gift to him this father’s day is that when i finish this pack of smokes, i”m done. if i got sick, he’s the only one i have to take care of me. he’s already taken care of me enough. so, there’s also that.  bleh.  quitting sucks.
